This is your second blogprompt. You will need to respond to this by the end of next week.
Al Gore (and the IPCC) won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 (BBC 2007) largely for the production of the film 'An Inconvenient Truth'
The committee cited "their efforts to build up and disseminate knowledge about man-made climate change".
To what extent do you think this was deserved? Having watched this film in class did you feel that your opinion (or perhaps the opinion of others) to the issue of climate change could be positively influenced? What did you think of this film? Was it effective?
NOTE: some bloggers should think about writing a little bit more, perhaps inserting images and links also.
From my point of view ; when I watched the film ; it did not make any sense for Al Gore talking about global warming recently because; if he saw this before, why he didn’t do any thing about climate change; and why he didn’t make any effort when he was vice president that time he had power ,he could have influenced it then but, he didn’t . On the film he was talking about 50 -90 years to come ; who is going to be there, I am sure if the next generation they will find way to control that situation .I think Al Gore he just wanted to make money from that film, rather than feeling sorry for the next generation.
ReplyDeleteHowever, on the other hand, global warming is the big threat to the world , but because of People in power not taking right action a bout it.

ReplyDeleteThe Ex-US Vice President is supposed to have made a difference to our climate since starting his campaign on Climate change. Evidence has shown that his campaign has virtually no effect. We read often of continued global warming, so much that the population of our polar beer is ever reducing. The United States still fail to commit itself to reducing the amount of pollution of our dear planet. I think Al-Gore was awarded the noble price because of his fame as ex-vice president of the united state, probably as a compensation for failing to win the presidency against George W. Bush. I conclude therefore that his climate campaign has not convinced major economies to commit to green house gases and to reduce the amount of pollution to our climate. Hence, I am of the opinion he did not deserve the award he received.
ReplyDeleteWow, hard comments, but you both need to agree that showing it in schools MUST have done something about raising awareness, even if his idea it is completely man made is debatable. Because it’s probably helped influence some people then that can only be a good thing right? Probably shouldn’t have had a noble peace prize for it but it’s still a good achievement I think.
ReplyDeleteI quite agree with you Elliot. Despite the fact that Algore's speech was alarming and full of facts and statistics, climate should not be ignored.
ReplyDeletei know this is short but i kind of agree with what most of the students said
ReplyDeleteFrom my point of when i watched the video it was a bit difficult to understand at first but when i go into it it made sense for instance the Ex President said to have made a difference in our climate ever since starting this campaign. During the video the results that were shown during the campaign have virtually no effect so sometimes you think this is a waste of time. But at the same time it has raised awareness about the activities that are taking place.
