In class we have looked at some selected articles from some newspapers related to climate change. I have also briefly (very briefly!) commented on the role of the media in shaping the opinions of the public with respect to sustainable development issues.
Most newspapers sold in the United Kingdom are tabloids. Only one broadsheet features in the top six selling newspapers of January 2009 (Audit Bureau of Circulations 2009).

so....To what extent do the best selling UK newspapers cover stories related to serious issues? To what extent would you think that it is their role to do so? In your opinion does the tabloid media and 'low budget entertainment' (reality shows, soaps) have too much power and influence in this country?
In the Uk, I think newspapers are divided in to two different types, for example the times, guardian , daily mail, etc, these tends to cover serious issues happening around the world, while the sun and star covers most ‘entertainment’ celebrity and gossips.
ReplyDeleteNewspapers have got every rights and responsibility to inform the people of what is going on in the world, but unfortunately they don’t because, in my opinions i strongly believe that people they don’t show much interest on what is happening in the world due to different reasons; they find it boring, lack of knowledge, ignorant, etc. In that case tabloids, media and low budget entertainments happen to have too much power and influence in this country, because they tend to entertain people and that is how they make money as a business.
All newspapers and magazines all tend to cover issues which are serious but they sometimes to do this in an seriousness way in order to catch the audience and to also make their money. I do think they do have an extent in the way they write in order for them not to get carried away but to get people's attention and to keep them updated with what is going on in their area and across the world.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion i dont think the tabloid have a lot of power to influence the UK.
Each newpaper a read by all kinds of people. Newspapers and magazines covers all issues and topics that people tend to take seriously.
ReplyDeleteEach newspapers and the magazines that are read by different kinds of people it shows that sometimes people can get influenced by what the articles are saying but they sometimes they do this in an seriousness way so they can catch the audiences attention and to all so keep the viewers up to date with whats happening locally, nationally and world wide.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion newspapers have away to say certain things and write things in order for people to get carried away and also to get there paper bought all the time.
