Blogprompt Number Five

Christmas is coming!

Cultural festivals, such as Christmas, are undoubtedly enjoyable and an important time for families and friends to relax together. Many have important religious significance. On the other hand, such events are often defined by excess and waste...lights, fireworks, over-packaging, excessive spending, over-eating and embarrassing self indulgence.

What do you think? Is Christmas sustainable? How would it all work in a changed world?

Or should all the 'do-gooders' leave our festivals alone!!!!

(Happy Christmas and have a good break, see you next year)

  1. Christmas day has lost its meaning for the past years, which is remembrance of the day Jesus Christ was born, recently, Chrismas is more cultural oriented than religion. Apparently, its more of gifts, food and drinking.
Kids are more aware of the day to open presents from santa than to go to church and celebrate the holly day.
We can change the world of today, by educating people and going back to the old ways of celebrating Christmas.

  2. Christmas is a time when most people expect to be with their families and be happy. The decorations, the lighting used and the food used can be justified as it only happens once a year. It is a time that brings people together and I think the energy and food is justified in a way. If people had the kind of celebrations every month because it suited them then it would be chaos.

  3. Christmas only comes once a year as this is where we celebrate for a variety of reasons for example, Christians will celebrate this festive moment as the birth of Jesus Christ while others see it as a day to spend time with family and love ones and to receive goodies.

Is Christmas sustainable? well i think its a yes and no answer as it depends how we celebrate Christmas as people will celebrate it with or without festive decorations, etc and we only use it for a certain period of time.

  4. christmas must be sustainable, its the one time of the year where people (or most people) can seem to relax and have a good time. its been going on for year and although we are all guilty of a little over indulgence during the festive season, if people dont have a time in the year where they can (not totally) forget their problems and just get on with people, then life wouldnt be worth living.

  5. I do not think that Christmas is Sustainable because it is a time in the year where when people shop the most and by shopping a lot of plastic bags are being used. There is also all the Christmas decoration that are not very sustainable because there are the Christmas decorations and the gifts that people buy are which are mostly toys for children that are plastic so it is not very good on the environment. However it is only once a year so it is not that important that Christmas is not sustainable because it is a happy time of the year where people can treat themselves and each other. Christmas can be sustainable in a changed world because we could change it to make it more eco friendly Christmas by choosing gifts made from recycled sources, re-gifting and give battery free gifts.

  6. Christmas is the most important thing season because it comes once a year and as the years go on christmas has lost its value and meaning. Dont know how you can say decorations are not sustainable when thats what makes that holiday cheerful.

  7. Personally Christmas is very sustainable its the most important year when people go shopping like crazy and sales are at good prices so its that time to spend spend spend. Christmas is also about spending time with your family its also about gifts for the little ones then again the toys are plastic so over the years toys have lost its value the little s one today have the leftovers. also Christmas is special in many ways perhaps a new born child that was born on a couple days before so another reason why Christmas is important because its the baby first Christmas.Christmas also brings people Christmas changes the world and it is important when the new year comes out with the old and in with the new year and some people go Church for the new year to celebrate. Christmas has change a lot since i was kid brings back soo many memories.
